Diffusion 2008
8pm Thursday 25 September 2008
Soundings is proud to announce the results of Diffusion 2008, an international competition designed to find the best in young electroacoustic music composers. This prize has been established by RTÉ Lyric FM and the Centre for Computational Musicology and Computer Music (CCMCM) at the University of Limerick. This year it is presented with the Dublin Electronic Arts Festival. The 3000 euro commission for first prize will be presented by Lyric FM's Bernard Clarke.
For this concert the top three pieces will be debuted over a special surround-sound system. This is a rare chance to hear truly stunning multi-channel audio in a lovely listening environment.
One of the judges of this year's competition is the renowned Trevor Wishart, currently composer-in-residence at the University of Durham in north-eastern England. He is the author of two seminal books in the field, Audible Design and On Sonic Art. As a composer he has in particular explored the human voice through extended vocal techniques and innovative notation. He will be diffusing his piece "IMAGO".
You will also get to hear "Real Time Tape Music 3" by Kerry Hagan, composer and lecturer at the University Of Limerick, plus the debut of the work by Lucas Fagin that was commissioned as the winner of the 2006 Diffusion Prize.
This Soundings event is presented in cooperation with the debut of the tweak festival. Check out their site for ways you can get involved in workshops on instrument building, VJing and more!
Admission is only 10 euros at the door. University of Limerick students are free with student ID. Space is limited: first come, first served.
