Tony Higgins opened the night with a piece for drum kit and electronics which blurred the lines between live and recorded sound.

escalation 746 processed the signature mobile phone "Nokia Tune" through electic guitar pickups, a pillow speaker and a contact microphone.

KK.Null blasted the minds of all present with a visceral set of layered electronics, controlled live via two Kaoss pads.

KK.NULL In Concert
With escalation 746 And Tony Higgins
Soundings is proud to present, direct from Japan, legendary noise artist KK.Null in concert on Tuesday 31 October 2006 at 8:00pm. This is the second in a continuing performance series designed to open the senses to new forms of music, sound art and media interaction. The location is the beautifully restored Daghdha Space, John's Square, Limerick, Ireland.
KK.NULL has been creating sounds as a solo artist, in collaboration and in band contexts since 1981. Beginning with improvisation, he gained notoriety as a "guitar noise terrorist". He masterminded the progressive hardcore trio Zeni Geva, started his own label, and has collaborated with some of the most prominent sound artists in the world, including Merzbow, Z'ev, Chris Watson, Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke, Fred Frith and John Zorn. He has played hundreds of concerts around the world and released many dozens of CDs. Lately, KK.NULL has moved towards a more electronic approach, creating isolationist material which he describes as "cosmic noise maximal/minimalism". He has also studied as a Butoh dancer.
Opening is escalation 746, a performer who has moved from a previous base in Canada to Ireland. Activities include radiophonics, performance art, soundtracks, phonography and electro-acoustics. Current interests include generative software systems that incorporate improvisational components. Most recently, escalation 746 has performed live to accompany a seven hour long dance piece.
Also appearing is percussionist Tony Higgins with a piece for drums and tape. Higgins is a composer & performer who recently completed a Masters in music technology at the University of Limerick.
Admission is only 5 euros at the door. University of Limerick students are free with student ID. Space is limited: first come, first served.
